Twenty-three folks in 12 cars joined us for a private, guided safari tour in two park-provided vehicles which took us around the sprawling wildlife center.  We learned about the animals we saw and the park's programs to help preserve endangered and threatened species.  Animal food was provided to feed the animals which roamed free in the park. 

Halfway through the tour, we stopped at the park’s store where many of us purchased glasses so we can view the solar eclipse.  Throughout the event, we saw the progress of the moon’s shadow as it approached then covered the sun.  The maximum phase occurred at around noon. 

After the safari, we enjoyed lunch at the upscale Riverhouse Grill in Glen Rose. Elegant but casual, the restaurant occupies a renovated historic home built in the early 1900s.   We made our selections from a group menu curated just for us.
