College Station
Texas

Overnight trip to College Station.

Twenty-three folks joined the Houston Section for a great weekend.  The Houston section caravanned in on some back roads to College Station that provided the opportunity to really enjoy the luxury and performance of Mercedes-Benz cars.

The first stop on the trip was at the Messina Hof Winery in Bryan, Texas where we met other MBCA members from North Texas and The Lone Star sections.  The winery is located in a beautiful location with beautiful buildings which houses a restaurant and a gift shop that has all things for folks who love wine. Texas is now one of the leading states in the wine industry and the winery has four locations in Texas.  We began with a great lunch and folks got to visit and get to know each other.  After lunch we took a tour of the winery, including a look at the wine making process and a wine tasting session. The wine tasting session included a free souvenir wine glass.

For the evening banquet we had a wonderful speaker, Dr. Robert Holzweiss, Acting director of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum. Dr. Holzweiss gave a great presentation regarding the library and the upcoming addition, the Railway & Locomotive Museum.  The Railway Museum will be finished by June of 2024.  This is a great reason to make another visit to College Station and the Bush Museum.

On Sunday morning we gathered for breakfast and had plans to go to the Aggieland Wild Animal Safari.  However, given the forecasted temperatures in the 100’s, we decided that the group would do that on another trip to College Station.  After breakfast we made a visit to the Museum of the American GI. The museum has the largest collection of restored and running WWI and WWII military vehicles. They are dedicated to preserving the memories of all American Servicemen and women.

A great weekend was had by all. The participation of the North Texas and Lone Star sections was much appreciated by the Houston section.  We owe you a trip to an event in your section. Just let us know and we will hit the road.
