Bluegrass Stars on steps of Old State Capital
Saturday, May 20, 2023 - 05:00am to Saturday, May 20, 2023 - 08:30am
Frankfort
Kentucky

On May 20th, the Bluegrass Stars headed to Frankfort, Kentucky, for a day of history, and good food, on what turned into a beautiful Saturday. We were a small but enthusiastic group that first had a private tour of the Old State Capitol with our very knowledgeable, bright and funny guide, Olivia. It was an experience worth having if you get the chance to visit.

We were joined for the day by Regional Director, Ken Koehler and his lovely wife, Sara, who took advantage of our day-long pass to return after lunch to visit more of the sites offered by the Kentucky Historical Society.  history.ky.gov

Then we enjoyed lunch on the patio at Bourbon on Main. The food, comradery, and weather were so enjoyable we could have lingered all day.

From there, we visited the Kentucky Vietnam Veteran's Memorial for a sobering presentation about the Memorial and the incredibly unusual gnomon ( the pointed end of a sundial that casts the shadow) by CW5 (Ret) Vic Gilliland. If given the opportunity, this tribute to those Kentucky service members who gave their lives for their country and our freedom, should not be missed.
